4. Our content and your rights to it

The stories, photos, graphics, videos, logos, design and software on this website belong to Ascendant Africa, Zinduka Media or the people who licensed them to us. Laws on copyright and trade marks protect them. We give you a limited right to read the content and to share links to it. All other rights stay with us or with the owner.

The Ascendant Africa name and logo are ours. Please do not use them without our written permission.

5. Sharing and republishing

You are welcome to share links to our stories on social media and by email. You may quote a short extract with a clear credit to Ascendant Africa and a link to the original story. If you want to republish a full story, a photo or a large part of our content, email info@ascendant.africa first. Some stories come from partners such as the African Media Agency. Those stories carry their own source label and may have different rules for reuse.

6. What you send us

  • you own the material or have the right to share it

You keep ownership of what you send. You give us a free, non-exclusive right to review, edit, publish and share it on Ascendant Africa and on our channels, and to keep it in our archive. Our editors decide what we publish. We may edit for length and clarity and we may decline anything for any reason.

7. Comments and community

If we allow comments on a story, keep them respectful and lawful. We may remove comments that are abusive, hateful, false, spam or unlawful. Views in comments belong to the people who wrote them.

8. Newsletter

When you subscribe to our newsletter you agree to receive emails from us. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in each email. We handle your details as set out in our Privacy Policy.

9. Advertising and sponsored content

The website carries advertising and sponsored content. We label sponsored content clearly. Sponsors are responsible for what their content says. If you deal with an advertiser or sponsor, your dealings are with them. We are not a party to them and we are not responsible for what they offer. Our newsroom decides what we report, and advertisers do not edit our news coverage.

10. Links to other websites

Our stories may link to websites run by other people. We do not control those sites. We do not endorse them and we are not responsible for what they contain or how they treat your data.

11. Accuracy and availability

We work to publish accurate and timely stories. We may still make mistakes, and some information may become out of date. If you find an error, email info@ascendant.africa with a link to the story. We may change, pause or remove any part of the website at any time. We do not promise the website will always be available or free of errors.

12. Limits on our responsibility

The website and its content are provided "as is". Our articles give general information and are not financial, investment, legal, medical or other professional advice. Please read our Disclaimer.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Ascendant Africa and Zinduka Media are not responsible for loss or damage that comes from using the website or relying on its content, or from a virus or other harmful code, or from the actions of third parties such as advertisers and linked websites. Nothing in these terms limits any responsibility that the law does not allow us to limit.

13. Privacy and cookies

Our Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it and what rights you have. It also covers cookies. Please read it.

14. Ending access

We may block or limit your access to the website if you break these terms or misuse the website. You may stop using the website at any time.

If you read our website from another country, you are responsible for following the local laws that apply to you. This does not take away any rights that the law of your country gives you and that cannot be waived.
